The La Cañada Flintridge Orthopaedic Guild, or LCFOG, will be hosting its 66th Book and Author Luncheon on Oct. 24 with the goal to see that every child gets the best orthopedic medical care possible regardless of financial status.

All funds raised at the event will be donated to Luskin Orthopaedic Institution for Children, where renown orthopaedic surgeons have been known to do some miraculous work.

Three authors will premiere their latest books at the LCFOG event. Author Amy Meyerson will present her third book, “The Love Scribe” for which she received the “Amazon Editors Pick.” This story’s premise is that of a woman who wants to cheer up her friend, so, she writes her a heartfelt story, which may have special powers. The author’s first two books, “The Bookshops of Yesterdays” and “The Imperfects” were best sellers and page turners and have been translated into eleven languages. Meyerson received a master’s in fine arts and now teaches in the writing department at USC.

J. Ryan Stradal grew up in the southern Minnesota town of Hastings. After graduating from Northwestern University, he became a prolific writer. His latest novel “Saturday Night at the Lakeside Supper Club” was an instant national best seller. It tells the legacy of love, tragedy, hardship and hope that unites and divides us. Stradal will also present “Lager Queen of Minnesota,” a national best seller in its first week of release and was named one of the best books of the year.

Chris Erskine, meanwhile, is no stranger to the podium, and LCFOG is delighted that he will be making his third appearance at the Book and Author Luncheon. Chris chronicled life in Los Angeles for more than 30 years as a writer for the L.A. Times. He will present “What the Bears Know, Finding Truth and Magic in America’s Most Misunderstood Creatures,” which he co-authored with Steve Searles. Erskine is the father of four, a local resident, a frequent speaker, a longtime coach and a columnist for Outlook Newspapers. He also organizes local hikes and gin tastings.

The event will take place at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club, which is located at 5500 Godbey Drive. Parking is complimentary.

Members of LCFOG would welcome any woman who has the time and interest to join them. Since 1956, when LCFOG became an auxiliary of OIC — currently Luskin Orthopaedic Institution for Children — it has donated more than $840,000 to benefit children. The Guild meets locally, dues are minimal and all women are welcome. If interested, contact Joan Cleven at (818) 249-4603, or Jeanne Long at (818) 640-9106.
