LCHS Golfer Impresses at National Competitions

Nolan Kuszyk, a senior at La Cañada High School, has been busy competing in golf tournaments the past several months.
In June he placed 10th amongst a national field of competitors in the American Junior Golf Association Open at Hobson Ranch Golf Course, located near Phoenix. His rounds were scores of 70-71-68 to finish seven-under-par for 54 holes.
Later in June at the San Diego Junior Golf Junior World Qualifier at Native Oaks Golf Course, Kuszyk scored a personal best of 66, 64 (-14) to win first place by a six-stroke margin and qualify for the IMG Junior World Championship at Torrey Pines, the most prestigious junior golf event on the west coast.
In July, Kuszyk captured first place with a late surge at the AJGA Open in northern California at the Copper Valley Golf Club. In his third (and final) round, he went eagle, followed by five consecutive birdies to win by one stroke. His total score was 69-68-65 (-14).
In early August, Kuszyk flew to Portland, Oregon, to compete for the San Diego team in the Eddie Hogan Cup Team Championships. (The Eddie Hogan Cup is the premiere team event in the western United States, with 12 teams representing eight states.) Kuszyk went 71-70 for second place individually and led the San Diego team to a first-place tie. He had the lowest score of all the players representing the three California teams.
Lastly, Kuszyk recently traveled to Jacksonville, Fla., to compete in the AJGA Billy Horschel Tournament at Eagle Harbor Golf Course. He was selected based on merit from 629 applicants from around the United States and internationally. He placed sixth amongst a highly competitive field of 60 players.
This summer, Kuszyk was recruited by NCAA Division I college programs and, after receiving multiple scholarship offers, selected to play at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. He is currently ranked No. 68 on the Junior Golf Scoreboard and 39th on the Rolex Rankings nationally in the class of 2024.
Kuszyk, who is an active member of the Chamber Singers at La Canada High School, also has four holes-in-one and recently tied his best score at Glendale’s Oakmont Country Club of 64 (seven under par).
