La Crescenta Heartshare Club Paints a Mural at LCE

The members of La Crescenta Heartshare Club, composed of aspiring high school age artists, painted a mural on the handball walls at La Cañada Elementary School over the winter break.
The club is a nonprofit organization founded in 2017 by La Crescenta InArt Education. The members consist of students from the community, including La Canada High School, Crescenta Valley High School, Westridge School, and Los Angeles County High School of Arts.
Rainy days posed to be a challenge as the start date kept on getting pushed back. As soon as the rain stopped, 13 members of the club spent 20 hours on 12/23 and 12/24 to complete the project. The mural was painted on two of the handball court walls in the playground of LCE. They created colorful planets and stars that the kids can shoot the ball at to make their handball game more fun and challenging.
In order to bring the mural projects to completion, weeks of planning and preparation are involved. The officers of the club spend many hours contacting and communicating with the institution’s leadership in order to narrow down the location and design ideas. Once the design is approved, the members have to purchase supplies, paint colors and make stencils ahead of time for all the letters.
Every institution that LC Heartshare has worked with has given raving reviews of their professionalism and the quality of their work.
“The mural turned out great and the students loved seeing it returning from break,” said La Cañada Elementary Principal Kelly Duncan in an email to the Heartshare Club. “The artistic expressions on display add a unique touch that makes our playground a happy and delightful place to be.”
