The Learning Castle and The Sand Castle Preschool presented their annual winter shows on Dec. 21 at the Lanterman Auditorium, where an audience of excited parents, friends and family gathered to support the young performers.
The TLC show, “Winter Wonderland,” was written and directed by music teacher Kristin Maitlen. It included holiday standards such as “Frosty the Snowman,” “Silver Bells” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”
Second and third grade students also performed dance numbers to the rockabilly hits “Johnny B. Goode,” “Run Rudolph Run” and “Jingle Bell Rock.” Dance numbers were choreographed and staged by dance teacher Rakkell Villagomez.
The TSC preschool performance, “Winter Wonders, Tiny Treasures” featured 2- and 3-year old children dressed up in their holiday best and singing at the top of their lungs. Each class sang three short songs that were directed by their class teachers.
“Seeing 2-year-olds on stage singing holiday songs has to be the most adorable thing ever,” said TSC Director Angie Keshishian. “It’s a lot of work, but it’s so worth it in the end.”
The next big project for the two schools’ performing arts department will be the annual spring musical on March 23 at the Lanterman. All productions are produced through the schools’ annual Giving Campaign and the Strait Up Foundation.
The Learning Castle is a private school for 4-year olds through third graders; The Sand Castle is a private preschool for two- and three-year olds; both are located on the site of the former FIS campus at 4490 Cornishon Avenue in La Cañada.
