Repeal Parcel Tax If Sales Tax Increases

The City Council is once again considering increasing the local sales tax by another .75%, so that LCF may charge the maximum amount permitted by state law.
No real “need” for such an increase is cited; the justification appears to be simply, “We should raise the sales tax locally before some outside government entity does it for us.”
If the sales tax is going to be bumped up, I think the community should consider repealing the Measure LC parcel tax pursuant to Section 3 of Article XIIIC of the California Constitution, to “balance out” any new tax increase imposed on us.
The parcel tax can be repealed by majority community vote conducted under elections code procedures; we don’t need to rely on the City Council or the School Board to take such action.
