La Cañada Remains Perfect in League Play

Sophomore pitcher Connor Buchanan turned in his best performance of the season against South Pasadena last Friday and led the La Cañada High School varsity baseball team to a 7-0 victory.
Buchanan tossed a 6 2/3 innings and allowed only three hits, walked three and struck out a season-high 11 batters to keep the Tigers’ offense at bay. Trevor Grey faced the final batter of the game and shut the door on the visitors.
Buchanan’s teammates didn’t let his performance go to waste as they collected eight hits and scored seven runs. Conner Schulz was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, three stolen bases and one run scored, and Kyle Mysliviec finished the game 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. Jonathan Shaklan was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and one run, Tristan Kalnins had a hit and a run, Graham Massimino finished with one hit and one RBI, and Tyler Fierro scored once.
The Spartans (14-5 overall record, 6-0 in league), ranked No. 3 in CIF Southern Section Division 5, will travel to Temple City for a league contest this Friday, April 21, at 3:30 p.m.

Flintridge Prep 6
Palos Verdes Chadwick 4

The Rebels broke a 4-4 tie with two runs in the top of the seventh inning and edged host Palos Verdes Chadwick, 6-4, in a Prep League game on Tuesday.
Danny Chiarodit led Flintridge Prep (10-4-1 overall, 4-2 in league) with two runs scored, and Jack Enzminger was 2-for 4 with an RBI. Nicholas Davis was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Max Rosenfeld and Bradley Noble each drove in a run, Buddy Palmer, Jeff Chan and Germaine Harvey scored one run each, and Kendall Kikkawa had a hit.
Max Rosenfeld picked up the win in relief, pitching two innings and allowing two runs on one hit and three walks. Davis started the game on the mound and allowed two unearned runs in five innings, walked four and struck out three.
Flintridge Prep will host Chadwick in a league contest today at the Glendale Sports Complex at 3:30 p.m.

Downey 2
St. Francis 0

The Golden Knights were shut out by Downey, 2-0, in the semifinals of the Santa Fe Springs St. Paul Tournament on Tuesday.
St. Francis was limited to only three hits in the game, which came from Aaron Treloar, Christian Muro and Brandon Lewis.
Pitcher Nolan Shwery was dealt the loss after allowing one run on three hits and three walks in four innings. JP Caire tossed two innings in relief and allowed a run and struck out three.
The Golden Knights (5-14 overall, 3-6) finished tournament play on Wednesday and will host Mission Hills Alemany in a Mission League game at the Glendale Sports Complex on Tuesday, April 25, at 3:30 p.m.
