LCHS Edged by San Marino for League Title

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ tennis team finished as Rio Hondo League runners-up after narrowly losing to San Marino, 11-7, in its regular-season finale last week.
The Spartans and Titans split their two regular-season matches this season, but San Marino was crowned the league champ because its margin of victory last week was bigger than the Spartans’ with over the Titans several weeks ago, according to LCHS coach Will Moravec.
LC’s No. 2 singles player Lance Morgan (6-2, 6-0, 6-0) and No. 3 Konan Sahara (6-3, 6-2, 6-0) each swept while the No. 1 doubles team of Aaron Magtoto and Dylan Lu added a 6-3 victory.
The Spartans previously routed Monrovia in a league match, 17-1. The No. 1 team of Morgan and Lu earned a trio of 6-0 victories while the No. 3 duo of Blake and Cayden Chang swept, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0. The No. 2 tandem of David Lee and Sahara collected a pair of 6-0 victories before alternating with Eric Lee. The new pair of David and Eric Lee completed the sweep with a 6-0 victory. No. 2 Magtoto (6-4, 6-0, 6-0) and No. 3 Justin Son (6-5, 6-1, 6-0) each swept while No. 1 Spencer Moravec added a pair of victories, 6-1, 6-2.
LCHS finished the regular season with a 9-1 league record and will learn its CIF-Southern Section Division I first-round opponent when the playoff brackets are released on Monday, May 1, at 11 a.m.
