Girl Scout Duo Earns Silver Awards

La Cañada Girl Scout troop 3381 members Justine and Joslyn Abrahamian recently completed their Silver Award project, which honored their late cousin Jacob Kavarian, who was a champion of rights for special needs children.
To achieve this goal, the pair decided to help Palm Crest Elementary, their former elementary school. The girls spoke with members of the educational community to come up with a way to serve elementary school students. Through their research, they discovered that Palm Crest does the majority of developmental assessments for elementary school students, however, were lacking the necessary tools. So, the two took on the task of providing them with the appropriate resources.
To do so, they worked alongside members of Palm Crest’s staff, speech teacher Kristen Angelica, occupational therapist Jessica Voelker and psychologist Christy Suh, to make boxes and carts containing ordinal scales used for assessments — all in Jacob’s honor.
Justine and Joslyn Abrahamian fundraised nearly $1,200 to complete their project. Because of their hard work, Palm Crest now has their own tools to assess students and preschoolers.
The Girl Scout Silver Award is the highest award a Girl Scout cadette can achieve. It is earned by showing that the Girl Scout is a leader who is organized, determined and dedicated to improving their community.
The two girls are thankful to everyone who helped make Jacob’s boxes and carts possible — “Once a Panther, Always a Panther!”
