Big Band Slated to Perform Sacred Tunes

The Jack Lantz Big Band will perform as part of the Jazz Vespers series at La Cañada Presbyterian Church at 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 27.
It will be presented live in the church’s sanctuary and will also be livestreamed. To watch it online, go to live.lacanadapc.org.
Church officials said the lively big band performance is a way to support the people of Ukraine in their struggle for freedom as well as celebrate recovery from COVID restrictions.
They also said the combination of such an energetic musical style and simple liturgy provides a way to reflect on life today and prepare for the challenges of the week ahead.
The 16-piece Jack Lantz Big Band includes five saxophones, four trumpets, four trombones and a rhythm section (piano, bass and drums) improvising on a wide range of familiar sacred tunes.
“This Sunday is the opportunity for people to have fun, to worship, to celebrate and do all those fun things they like to do with Big Band swing music,” Jack Lantz said.
The concert is free. A free-will offering will be accepted. No reservations are required for the hour-long performance.
La Canada Presbyterian Church is located at 626 Foothill Blvd. For more information, call (818) 790-6708 or visit lacanadapc.org.
